Who remembers the slogan “ In Sight It Must Be Right? “

If you answered Steak N Shake you are absolutely CORRECT!! This fast food chain restaurant has been around since 1934 but unfortunately many of the stores near me have closed and I am craving a Frisco Melt! Guess I’ll just make one myself!


My CopyCat Version of the Steak N Shake Frisco Melt



Ingredients

For the Frisco Sauce

1/2 cup Thousand Island dressing

2 tbsp. ketchup

1/2 cup French dressing

1/8 tsp. Worcestershire

1/4 tsp. Sugar

1/8 tsp. garlic powder

1/8 tsp. Sriracha

For the Burger

8 oz. ground round

4 oz. ground sirloin

4 oz. ground chuck

6 slices sourdough bread

6 tbsp. butter

6 slices American or cheddar cheese

6 slices Swiss cheese

1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ground black pepper

1/4 tsp. onion salt

1/4 tsp. garlic salt

3 tbsp. olive or vegetable oil for frying


Instructions

In a medium sized bowl combine the ground round, ground sirloin, and ground chuck. Combine and mix thoroughly. Place in the refrigerator for approx. 10 mins. to allow meat to rest before forming 6 4-ounce discs of meat.  While the meat is resting combine the salt, black pepper, onion salt, and garlic salt in a small bowl for the burger seasoning. Prepare the Frisco sauce by combining the thousand island dressing, catsup, French dressing, sugar, garlic powder, Sriracha, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Mix well.

On medium high heat. add 1 tbsp. oil to griddle. Allow to heat up and then place 2 hamburger discs. at a time onto the griddle and using a spatula flatten the meat to very thin patty.

Season with the burger seasoning. These burgers cook very quickly so cook approx. 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Once the edges begin to brown flip the burgers and season them again. On separate skillet add 2 tbsp. of butter and heat until melted. Add the sourdough bread and allow each to brown on one side. Place 2 slices of Swiss cheese onto one of the slices of bread. Add one meat patty. Add the 2 cheddar or 2 American cheese slices on top of meat patty. Then place second patty on top of the cheese. Top with sauce and then add the other slice of bread on top. Allow to cook for another minute or so.

Makes 3 Frisco Melts
