What did the baker say as he waved goodbye to the French bread? I'll never bag-uette you. 😜

Savory Italian Sausage and Mixed Italian Cheese Bread Pudding

2 tbsp. butter, divided

1 pound sweet Italian sausage links (casings removed)

1 medium yellow onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, peeled and diced

7-8 slices French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (I left crust on)

2 1/2 cups 5 Italian cheese mix, shredded

1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley

6 large eggs

1/8 tsp. Grated nutmeg

2 cups half and half

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with butter.

In a large nonstick sauté pan over medium-high heat, melt 1 tbsp. butter. Add the sausage and break up meat with wooden spoon. Cook until browned. Transfer the sausage to a large bowl. Leave fat in the pan.

Turn the heat down to medium and then add the onions to the pan along with 1 tbsp. of the butter. Cook the onions until soft and translucent, approx. 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another minute. When done add them to mixing bowl with the sausage, along with the bread cubes, italian cheese and parsley. Toss well, then spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, grated nutmeg, salt and pepper.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread mixture. Cover tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for approx. 50-60 minutes uncovered, until puffed and golden brown. Serve immediately!

Enjoy! 😉
