New Orleans Style Pain Perdu (Lost Bread)

Ingredients
3 large eggs
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup 1-2% milk
1-2 tbsp. Irish whiskey
1 tbsp. vanilla
Pinch nutmeg
2 tbsp.sugar
1/2 tsp. sea salt
6 slices of French bread, sliced 1 1/2 inches thick, day old
1-2 tbsp. unsalted butter
1-2 tbsp. vegetable oil
Confectioners’ sugar
Cane Sugar or Maple syrup
Instructions
In large bowl whisk together the eggs, cream, milk, Irish whiskey, vanilla, sugar, nutmeg and salt. Pour in baking pan.
Soak each slice of bread for about 10 minutes in the egg mixture. Flip bread halfway through to saturate both sides.
Heat a large pan or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tbsp. of oil and 1 tbsp. of butter to the pan.
When it is hot, cook the French toast until lightly crisp and browned on each side. You can add more oil or butter if needed.
Sprinkle powdered sugar over the pain perdu before serving with maple syrup or cane sugar.
