Scrumptious Homemade

Cheesesteak  Sandwich

2 tbsp. butter

3 tbsp. Olive oil, divided

1 medium yellow onion, diced

1 tsp. Sugar

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

1 1/2 pounds boneless sirloin, shaved strips

1 cup thinly sliced or shredded mild or sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup evaporated milk, more if needed

2 tsp. Garlic powder

1 loaf of soft French bread or hoagie rolls, sliced in half

1-2 cloves garlic, minced

Slices of jalapeños and peperoncini peppers

6 slices provolone cheese

Heat large pan to medium heat, and add butter and 1 tbsp. of the olive oil. When butter melted add the diced onions to skillet. After about 10 minutes, sprinkle the salt and pepper over the onions. Stir in the sugar to help with the caramelization process. Continue cooking until golden. Remove from pan, set aside.

In saucepan over medium to  low heat add the cheddar cheese, evaporated milk and garlic powder. Bring to simmer, stirring frequently, until cheese has melted.

Heat a flat skillet on medium to high heat. Add steak in single layers(may need to do in batches) and season with salt and pepper. Brown meat and turn after a minute or two to brown other side. Chop up into smaller pieces. Stir in the caramelized onions.

Place French bread halves on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle olive oil over top of bread and add the minced garlic. Place in oven on low broil until a bit toasted.

Remove from oven and spoon out the cheddar cheese mixture onto each piece of bread. Next, layer with the beef slices and top with peppers. Finally, top each half with three pieces of provolone cheese. Place back in oven and broil until cheese is nice and melted and a bit toasty on top.

Slice and serve! 😉
