Meat Pies are Life

Spicy Taco Meat Pies


1 box refrigerated pie dough

1 pound lean ground beef

1 tbsp. olive oil

1/2 tsp. sea salt

3/4 tsp. chili powder

1/2,tsp. smoked paprika

3/4 tsp. onion powder

3/4 tsp. garlic powder

3/4 tsp. cumin

1/4 tsp. dried oregano

1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes

1/2 cup black beans

1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

1 egg, lightly beaten plus 1 tsp. water, for egg wash


Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and stir to crumble. Add salt, chili powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, dried oregano, red pepper flakes and stir. Continue to cook until beef is no longer pink and seasoning thoroughly combined, about 10 minutes. Stir in the black beans then remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Sprinkle flour over a clean work surface. Roll out one sheet of dough. Cut dough into circles using a 4-inch cookie cutter, rerolling scraps as necessary. Repeat with remaining sheet of dough.

Place a tablespoon of meat mixture in middle of dough circles. Top with roughly a teaspoon of cheddar cheese. Carefully fold dough over meat. Pinch edges together with a fork.

Combine egg and water in a bowl. Brush egg wash over the top of each meat pie.

Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes or just until golden. Remove from oven and let meat pies cool slightly before serving.
