Quick and Easy Apple Crisp Crumble
Ingredients for Filling
2 lbs. Granny Smith apples (at room temperature) peeled, cored and sliced thin
3 tbsp. unsalted butter , melted
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 cup light brown sugar
3 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. Fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 pinch kosher salt
Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Ingredients for Crumb Topping
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup light brown sugar
1 stick unsalted butter, cold and diced
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Pinch of kosher salt
Instructions for Crumb Topping
In Medium bowl stir together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pinch of salt. Mix well. Add the butter to mixture and using a pastry cutter, fork or even your hands, mix until it is very crumbly. Transfer to refrigerator to chill while preparing the filling.
Instructions for Filling
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a medium sized casserole dish and set aside.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and flour until blended. Mix in water, lemon juice and vanilla. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.
Place apples in a large bowl. Pour the butter mixture over apples and toss together until evenly coated. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
Remove topping from refrigerator and sprinkle crumbles evenly over top of apples.
Bake until top is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a toothpick, about 35-40 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
