Easy Cherry Cheese Danish



Ingredients For the Danish

2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed

4 ounce cream cheese, softened

2 tbsp. granulated sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla

1/2 tsp.  almond extract

1 (21 ounce can) cherry pie fruit filling

1 egg plus 2 tsp. Milk (for egg wash)


Ingredients for the Icing

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2-3 tsp. milk, or more if needed


Instructions for Danish

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.

To make the cream cheese filling, mix together the softened cream cheese, sugar, and extracts until nice and smooth. Set aside.

Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets and lay them flat onto a sheet of parchment paper.

Using a pizza cutter, slice the puff pastry dough twice lengthwise making three even strips. Then, slice once width-wise in middle to make 6 separate pieces. Do this to both sheets.

Transfer the sheets onto a baking trays and make sure they’re evenly spaced apart. Using a knife, score a 1/4 inch border around the outside of each pastry. This allows the edges to rise to contain the filling.

Scoop about 1 tbsp. of the cream cheese filling into the center of each Danish. Spread the filling out to the border with a knife or back of spoon.

Dollop the fruit filling into the center of the cream cheese.

In a small bowl whisk together the egg and milk. Brush egg mixture along edges of pastry dough.

Bake in the oven for approx. 25 minutes, until pastries are evenly puffed and have golden brown edges.


Instructions for Glaze

In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and milk. Start off with 2 tsp. of milk and add more, if needed, for your desired consistency. Drizzle glaze over Danish using a spoon and serve warm.
