Antoinette’s Famous Lasagna

The only thing heavier than this pan of lasagna is my heart.. knowing there is probably not going to be any leftovers! ❤️😜😂👌🏻


1 pound lasagna noodles

1/2 pound ground beef

1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium yellow onion, diced 3 cloves garlic minced

1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes

1 jar pasta sauce (I use a local Zia’s pasta sauce here in The Lou)

1 cup water

2 tbsp. Granulated sugar

1/2 cup red wine

1 egg

1/2 tsp. Oregano 3 bay leaves

1/2 cup dried parsley 2 1/2 tsp. Dried basil 2 teaspoons granulated sugar 1 teaspoon italian seasoning

2 cups mozzarella cheese grated

1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

1 15 oz. ricotta cheese

Salt and pepper


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add in onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add in the garlic and ground beef and cook until browned. In separate skillet cook the Italian sausage until browned and then drain fat.

Add in the Italian sausage to skillet with hamburger meat and pour in the diced tomatoes, pasta sauce, water, bay leaves, dried basil, oregano, sugar, Italian Seasoning and salt.

Bring to boil and then reduce heat to simmer. Cook sauce approx 1-2 hours or until very thick.

While the meat sauce is cooking make the cheese layer. In medium bowl stir cheeses together. Then add in egg, parsley and pinch of salt and pepper and stir well until combined. In large pot bring water to boil and then add the salt.

Place whole lasagna noodles in water and cook stirring occasionally until 2/3’s of time it says on package (Approx. 7-8 mins).

Drain and place noodles in a large bowl of cold water and then drain well. To assemble the casserole spread 1/2 cup of prepared sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Layer in 4-5 noodles and then cover with half of the cheese mixture and then one third of the sauce. Repeat this step topping again with more noodles, the second half of the cheese mixture and another third of the sauce. Finally, layer the last of the noodles and the last of the meat sauce.

Sprinkle with some grated mozzarella cheese and sprinkle more Parmesan on top.

Cover lasagna with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Take out of oven and remove the foil and then place back in oven and bake for 15 minutes or until cheese has browned. Remove from oven and cover again with foil and let it rest for 20 minutes before cutting and serving.

Sprinkle with dried parsley flakes and cut into squares and serve!
